Topic 2: Energy Saving Technology in Advanced Irrigation Systems
(Keynote Speaker L. Ubertini)
Until a few years ago, the availability of low-cost energy was an incentive to the transformation of traditional plants into technologically advanced ones, from the point of view of control and equipment, because of the need to reduce irrigation running costs. Later on, the impact of the energy crisis on irrigation has brought about an urgent need to reduce the energy intake of the technologically advanced infrastructures, and in particular of the sprinkler and micro-irrigation systems, since in many cases these need considerable energy intake. So, present rising energy costs have led to a new view of this process, as a result of a new equilibrium between cost and energy.
The Conference aims at deepening these problems by both theoretical studies and field investigations. SUBTOPICS: a) Energy consumption indices;
b) Advanced energy saving technology in irrigation systems;
c) On-farm and off-farm energy consumption case studies.
