President Lee proposed the launching of "The Pavia Initiative" to connect ICID with other organisations, particulary Europe-based organisations interested in the global challenge of managing water for sustainable agriculture. With this initiative, Europe has a virtual role to play in the 5th World Water Forum to be held in Istanbul in March 2009.
